The Shoe That Grows

This program has already provided shoes to over 300,000 impoverished children in 100 countries. It is estimated that 300 million children in the world do not have shoes or have very poor and inadequate shoes. This figure also includes western countries.

Music Aid provided school shoes, among other essentials, to hundreds of poor Indonesian village children during its first field project back in 1998 and this has been a recurring theme since then. Music Aid strongly supports The Shoe That Grows program through its majpr events including World Concert Day. Artists and producers in these events are asked to consider this project as one of their causes – see below for contact details . Millions of children every day are exposed to illness and disease from contaminated soil because they have no shoes. The Shoe That Grows, from Because International, was created especially for children in poverty to tackle this problem. It expands five sizes and lasts for years and protects vulnerable children.

Over 1.5 billion people suffer from soil transmitted diseases worldwide.

Without shoes, children are especially vulnerable to soil-transmitted diseases and parasites that can cause illness and even death. Children who get sick miss school, can’t help their families, and suffer needlessly. And since children’s feet grow so quickly, they often outgrow donated shoes within a year, leaving them once again exposed to illness and disease. The Shoe That Grows project is working to change that with a specially designed shoe that that has been built to expand five sizes and last for years, created as a solution for kids impacted by poverty. Since its creation, over 300,000 pairs of The Shoe That Grows have been distributed in 100 countries around the world and in 2018 it received the Patents for Humanity award from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
